DATES
DATES
SCIENCE:
Dates improve gut health, prevent chronic diseases, high in fiber, have high nutritional value and various other benefits. [1]
The level of sugar in the blood of a newborn is low. Dates contain glucose especially after they have been diluted with saliva. As most or all newborns need glucose immediately after birth, giving the newborn softened dates protects the child from the danger of complications caused by lack of sugar. [2]
ISLAM:
It was narrated from Salmaan ibn ‘Aamir al-Dabiy that he heard that the Prophet ﷺ said: “When any one of you breaks his fast, let him break his fast with dates for that is a blessing; if there are no dates then with water, for that is a means of purification.” [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi] [1]
In the Saheehain it is narrated that Abu Moosa, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “A boy was born to me and I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ and he called him Ibrahim and rubbed the inside of his mouth with a date, and prayed for him to be blessed, then he gave him back to me.” [2]
